You’re about two weeks into being home with your baby and you’ve invited me over to come take photos. You realize your hair hasn’t left its top knot since you went into labor and getting more than three consecutive hours of sleep sounds like a dream- now you’re expected to put on makeup and get dressed up for photos?

Maybe you are looking forward to getting a little dressed up and feeling like your previous self, but if putting on a dress doesn’t sound like your idea of fun right now- fear not! Here are some mama outfit ideas for your newborn photos that are comfy, cozy, and look great for relaxed photos at home.

Ideal: Flow-y Long Dress in Light and Solid Colors or Subtle Print.

Solid light pastel colors make for bright and airy looking images that are pleasant to the eye. Ideally, it is best to wear a comfy maxi dress with a relaxed fit, I want you to feel comfortable and natural at home while still feeling polished.

Neutral Earthly Colors

A timeless classic - Light Neutrals. These are colors without much intensity or saturation, which generally go with every other color, and match your home decor in case you would like to order large prints/canvas. Imagine colors like tans, beiges, ivories, creams, whites, and light grays. These shades are very visually quiet and help maintain that light and airy look we are aiming for during Newborn Sessions.

Soft Textured Sweaters and Jeans

A sweater and jeans will never go out of style. Get some more use out of those maternity jeans! If you decide to wear jeans, I would recommend a White or Lighter Shade of Blue to keep it more dressy. Also, to pair them with a textured (or comfy) sweater which looks so nice contrasted to baby’s soft skin when they’re cuddled up close. Jeans can be combined with dressy blouses Gin natural shades or light pastel colors.
